A. Visa Services


1) A valid travel document (minimum six month validity): Passport or other travel Document;

2) Two (2) visa application forms per applicant, legibly completed and signed.

3) A round-trip ticket or a letter from a travel agency;

4) Two recent colored passport-sized photos (Please staple the photos on the forms) ;

5) A copy of a yellow fever vaccine certificate;

6) For official business: A letter from the goverment/company

7) For visitors: an invitation letter by family members or friends

8) For Tourists: Proof of hotel reservation(s)

9) A prepaid, self-addressed, stamped, express-returned envelope (such as USPS, FedEx or UPS Envelope)

NB: Any person travelling to Burundi from the United States of America must obtain an entry visa at the Embassy of Burundi in Washington, D.C. prior to travelling, except nationals of the East African Community (EAC) and DRC.


1. Ninety (90) US $: Single/Multiple entry visa (visa allowing a single/multiple entry in Burundi, valid for up to 90 days);

2.Forty (40) US$: Transit visa ( visa allowing a short stop over up to 48 hours);

3 An Additional thirty (30) US$ charge will be applicable for faster processing (Visa to be issued within 24 to 48 hours).

N.B. : Visa fees are payable only in Money Orders or Cashier's Check and are non-refundable; All applicants are advised to submit the exact amount of the official fee indicated above using money order or cashier's check only. No refunds will be made to applications submitted with an amount exceeding the official fees.


Standard Processing Time: 72 hours


1. Office hours: Monday through Thursday from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM; Fridays from 9.00 AM to 2.00 PM

2. Public Hours:

-Drop off: 9.00AM - 1.00 PM
-Pick Up: 2.00 PM - 4.00 PM

N.B. : All applicants must provide an active e-mail address and phone number to facilitate easy communication.


1. Countries listed below are exempted from visa application:

-Democratic Republic of Congo;

However, nationals from countries exempted from visa application need to have a valid passport issued by their respective countries.

-US$20 for a 3-month validity period from the issue date;
-Proof of citizenship, i.e. Burundian ID;
-US$20 in money order OR cashier's check;
-A formal request addressed to the Ambassador;
-Copy of your legal status in the U.S.
-Two-recent, Color, Passport-sized photos.

2. Document Authentification / Legalization, Certification fees and requirements

2.1 Burundian citizens:

-US$20 per document
-A formal letter of request addressed to the Ambassador
-A copy of your legal status in the U.S.
-A prepaid return self-addressed, stamped, express envelope (such as USPS, FedEx or UPS Envelope)

2.2 Other Citizens

-US$40 per document
-A formal letter of request addressed to the Ambassador

N.B. : All fees related to consular services are payable in Money Order or Cashier's Check and are non-refundable. Cash or personal checks are not accepted. A prepaid self-addressed, stamped, express envelope (such as USPS, FedEx or UPS Envelope) is required.
